I’ve been a bad blogger this week. I’ve found myself watching hours of The Tudors and researching historical novels in that time period. Here is what I have found…

5508080Secrets of the Tudor Court

The Pleasure Palace

This is the first of the series and looks very good, I will let you know. This starts out when Henry VII is still on the throne…

Beautiful. Seductive. Innocent. Jane Popyncourt was brought to the court as a child to be ward of the king and a companion to his daughters — the princesses Margaret and Mary. With no money of her own, Jane could not hope for a powerful marriage, or perhaps even marriage at all. But as she grows into a lovely young woman, she still receives flattering attention from the virile young men flocking to serve the handsome new king, Henry VIII, who has recently married Katharine of Aragon. Then a dashing French prisoner of war, cousin to the king of France, is brought to London, and Jane finds she cannot help giving some of her heart — and more — to a man she can never marry. But the Tudor court is filled with dangers as well as seductions, and there are mysteries surrounding Jane’s birth that have made her deadly enemies. Can she cultivate her beauty and her amorous wiles to guide her along a perilous path and bring her at last to happiness?

159849Catherine of Aragon by Jean Plaidy… I have heard alot about Jean Plaidy and I am excited to read another book about Katharine of Aragon. I read ‘The Constant Princess’ by Philippa Gregory and really liked how she was portrayed. I still need to write a review for that book, I started ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ but it didn’t keep my interest for some reason. Maybe because I watched the movie first, I’m not sure…

For the first time in paperback—all three of Jean Plaidy’s Katharine of Aragon novels in one volume.

Legendary historical novelist Jean Plaidy begins her tales of Henry VIII’s queens with the story of his first wife, the Spanish princess Katharine of Aragon.

As a teenager, Katharine leaves her beloved Spain, land of olive groves and soaring cathedrals, for the drab, rainy island of England. There she is married to the king’s eldest son, Arthur, a sickly boy who dies six months after the wedding. Katharine is left a widow who was never truly a wife, lonely in a strange land, with a very bleak future. Her only hope of escape is to marry the king’s second son, Prince Henry, now heir to the throne. Tall, athletic, handsome, a lover of poetry and music, Henry is all that Katharine could want in a husband. But their first son dies and, after many more pregnancies, only one child survives, a daughter. Disappointed by his lack of an heir, Henry’s eye wanders, and he becomes enamored of another woman—a country nobleman’s daughter named Anne Boleyn. When Henry begins searching for ways to put aside his loyal first wife, Katharine must fight to remain Queen of England and to keep the husband she once loved so dearly.

The Last Queen by CW Gortner

This one is about Katharine of Aragon’s older sister Juana. I think it will be very interesting to learn more about her…

51sd-ucer9lOne of history’s most enigmatic women tells the haunting, passionate story of her tumultuous life. Juana of Castile is just thirteen when she witnesses the fall of Moorish Granada and uniting of the fractured kingdoms of Spain under her warrior parents, Isabel and Fernando. Intelligent and beautiful, proud of her heritage, Juana rebels against her fate when she is chosen as a bride for the Hapsburg heir – until she arrives in Flanders and comes face-to-face with the prince known as Philip the Fair, a man who will bring her the greatest of passions, and the darkest despair. One by one, tragedy decimates Juana’s family in Spain. Suddenly, she finds herself heiress to Castile – a realm on the verge of chaos, prey to avaracious nobles and scheming lords bent on thwarting her rule. Juana vows to win her throne, until the betrayal of those she loves plunges her into a ruthless battle of wills – a struggle of corruption, perfidy, and heart-shattering deceit that could cost her the crown, her freedom, and her very life. From the somber majesty of Renaissance Spain to the glittering courts of Flanders, France and Tudor England, Juana of Castile reveals her life and secrets in this captivating historical novel of romance, grandeur, power and treachery by the acclaimed author of “The Secret Lion.”

51ptw7g1b7lThe same author has another book out called ‘The Secret Lion’ It starts out while Edward VI is on the thrown. I have way too many books to read! I don’t know where to begin. I did take a break from historical fiction and read ‘Holly’s Inbox’ This is a fun chick lit! I will give a review this week. It was a fun and easy read, I didn’t have to think hard!

Holly Denham has a lot on her plate. It’s her first day as a receptionist at a busy London corporate bank and, frankly, she can’t quite keep up. Take a peek at her email and you’ll see why: what with her crazy friends, dysfunctional family, and gossipy co-workers, Holly’s inbox is a daily source of drama. But it’s the laughter, friendship, and a hint of romance that keep Holly going.

Don’t forget about my giveaway that ends on Wednesday! I have had a huge response, I’m glad that Random.org will be making the decision for me.

Also, I have a new guy on my list (you know the one). I’ve had to bump off Superman (Tom Welling) for henry-cavill1Henry Cavill (Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk) on ‘The Tudor’s’ series! Oh my! He can eat crackers in my bed any day!!!

So I will leave you with a little bit of eye candy, but I will be back to review ‘The Constant Princess’ and ‘Holly’s Inbox’.

What are some good historical fictions that you have read? I would love to hear from you!!! :)

First off, I’d like to say that when I say TBR list, this means I have these books in my possession or should I say, in my iPod. I can’t just wait until I’m done with one book and then find another one. Everytime that I have seen a review of a book that I want to read I head on over to Amazon to find it. My iPod works with Kindle books so I have their very LARGE library over there. The problem is that I use the 1 click method and I don’t think I know just how much I am purchasing by just clicking a little button everytime I want a book. At least with eReader I have to put everything in the cart and actually see what I am spending.

I’m also very big on instant gratification, so by clicking this one little button, I instantly have the book in my iPod. Good and bad for a girl like me. We lost our debit card this week(we meaning me) so we had to cancel the card and are waiting for our new one. Very inconvenient. Yesterday I saw the reviews of ‘One Deadly Sin’ and decided I could not wait for my debit card to arrive so I ran to Barnes and Noble and bought it. An actual book. We’ll see how that goes. I also got the book ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ I have heard a lot about this book the last few weeks and want to read it before I see the movie. So without further delay, here is my list of TBR books that are in my iPod,(and the 2 other that I just named).

Breath of Fire and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon

The Cove(FBI series 1) by Catherine Coulter

The Maze(FBI series 2) by Catherine Coulter

The Target(FBI series 3) by Catherine Coulter

The Edge(FBI series 4) by Catherine Coulter

Books 1-8 of the Sookie Stackhouse novels(I even have my husband reading these, we really liked the series on TV)

The Inn at Eagle Point by Sherryl Woods

Flowers on Main by Sherryl Woods

Dark Lover by J.R. Ward

Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward

Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward

Vision in White by Nora Roberts

The Luxe by Anna Godberson

Mr and Miss Anonymous by Fern Michaels

The 8th Confession by James Patterson

The Poet by Michael Connelly

Sundays at Tiffany’s by James Patterson

My Sister’s Keeper by Bill Benners(A different one)

The Calling by Inger Ash Wolfe

Malice by Lisa Jackson

The Beach House by Jane Green

Ridiculous, Right? I KNOW!

Ok, now here is my sort of rant, and shocking discovery and all of you may already know this but bear with me.

So, I started reading ‘The Fiery Cross’ this week and with the last 2 books I have liked having them on audiobooks also, for one, I really like the narrator Davina Porter. I also like them so when I have to do menial tasks like, oh I don’t know, laundry and cleaning the house. This way I can listen to them while I am doing said tasks and keep going on the books, since it’s all I think about anyway! So I bought ‘The Fiery Cross’ the other day and then when I was downloading it I noticed it was only 8 hours long instead of 36. That’s when I realized that I had purchased the Abridged version instead of the Unabridged version. I really have never known the difference between the 2, just that the Unabridged is always more expensive, so it has to better right?

I googled it and was actually led to Diana Gabaldon’s website with her explaining the difference between the Unabridged and Abridged. You can see the whole article on her website. It’s under excerpts and then audio excerpts. She actually gives a comparison of the 2. I started reading the Unabridged and it went on and on and I was scrolling and scrolling and finally scrolled to the end. Then I went to the the abridged version. 3 SENTENCES, 3!!!!! If I could capitalize 3 I would!!! I was amazed! Although I did find a way for some of my friends to know the story of Outlander since ALL the sex scenes are taken out of the abridged version. That’s like half of the book right there! LOL!

So yesterday I was cleaning and doing laundry and was trying to figure out what to listen to and I thought I would give my abridged version a try anyway(since the Unabridged costs $123.00) I listened, and as usual I enjoyed the story and the narrator and I thought, so maybe I was missing a few sex scenes and a lot of description. I looked back to the book when I was finished and was shocked at what I had missed. I honestly still haven’t caught up a day later. It skipped the discussion between Roger and Jocasta, regarding her will. It skipped the babies getting baptized, the entire wedding ceremony and completely skipped the part of Jamie and Claire helping the man who had a stroke. Skipped them! Ok, so this is my rant. Yes it only cost me $19.00 for the audiobook, but what if I wouldn’t have looked back, all that I would have missed. How can they even sell this and call it Diana Gabaldon’s? She does go into detail about the how’s and why’s of abridged audiobooks. End of rant. That was a long one wasn’t it?

So, hopefully I can make it back tomorrow for a review on ‘Drums of Autumn’ If not, everyone have a wonderful Mother’s Day! Happy Reading!
